After weeks of work, I get to write the sentence I’ve been waiting for: Arawan Luxury Desert Camp is open.
Salem and I have spent this stretch deep in the details — a new kitchen building going up, a terrace added off the restaurant, floors freshly painted, plus all the ground logistics and booking systems that don’t show up in photos but shape a guest’s entire stay. None of it is glamorous work, but all of it is the difference between a good camp and an unforgettable one.
What I’m proudest of isn’t the additions, though they’re beautiful. It’s what Arawan represents. This camp was built by Salem’s hands, on his family’s land, the way it should be — not an extractive tourism project dropped into the desert, but something real, rooted, and his. I’ve had the privilege of being part of this project since it was only a dream, and watching it grow this season has been one of the best parts of this work.
If you’ve been thinking about the Sahara — about sitting around a fire with people who actually live this life, about waking up to dunes that look repainted overnight — this is the season for it.
We’re ready. Come sit with us. Season 2 is going to be amazing!
